On March 3, 2026, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of South Africa organized a work deployment meeting for the South African Government‑Sponsored Full Scholarship Program for Studies in China. Fan Ding, Education Counselor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of South Africa, and Zhao Yong, Second Secretary of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of South Africa, attended the meeting. Jian Haoran, Vice President of Yellow River Conservancy Technical University (YRCTU), together with heads of the Liaison and Cooperation Department and the School of International Education, as well as representatives from other host institutions, were in attendance.

Fan Ding emphasized that the program, as a key project under the China‑South Africa High‑Level People‑to‑People Exchange Mechanism, serves as an important measure for the two countries to implement their comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era. He put forward four requirements for the host institutions. First, they should strengthen the management team, clarify responsibilities, and refine measures to ensure steady progress of the program. Second, they should improve teaching management by adopting tiered instruction and individualized teaching to guarantee that students achieve tangible learning outcomes. Third, they should provide high‑quality education on Chinese national conditions, foster cultural immersion and character development, and cultivate friendly ties. Fourth, they should systematically accumulate materials, and summarize and refine experiences to build a foundation for program promotion.

Zhao Yong introduced the background of the program and the situation of the students. He pointed out that the program aims to help South Africa address youth unemployment and represents an important practice in China‑South Africa educational cooperation. He called on the host institutions to strengthen targeted training and refined management, and to provide comprehensive support for the students’ studies and lives in China.

Jian Haoran expressed gratitude to the Embassy for its long‑standing support and thoughtful guidance. He stated that hosting the program was an important political mission for YRCTU to serve the country’s diplomatic agenda and deepen China‑South Africa vocational education cooperation. He added that YRCTU would further raise its political stance, strengthen responsibility implementation, refine work measures, fully manage teaching and living support, and provide attentive student training and care. With solid and meticulous efforts, YRCTU would advance the program with high quality and contribute to deepening educational exchanges and cooperation between China and South Africa, as well as enhancing the friendship between the two countries.

Ji Yao, Director of the Liaison and Cooperation Department, reported in detail on the program’s progress. He introduced YRCTU’s specific measures in establishing a teaching management system and ensuring teaching and living support. He also explained upcoming work, including student arrival arrangements and plans for the opening ceremony.

The South African Government‑Sponsored Full Scholarship Program for Studies in China is a significant initiative in China‑South Africa educational cooperation. As a host institution, YRCTU will take this meeting as an opportunity to continuously consolidate its responsibilities, ensure the effective implementation of all program tasks, and earnestly promote deeper and more substantive educational exchanges and cooperation between China and South Africa.
